Patch Adams Relection Paper Essay Example for Free
Patch Adams Relection Paper Essay The movie Patch Adams is a truly inspiring movie for all those who wish to become doctors. The reason I enjoyed the movie, as is for most people, is the character and attitude portrayed by the lead actor Robin Williams. His role in the movie is both fascinating and inspiring. He was a man who, although initially considered himself to sick and suicidal, became one of the greatest flames in the medical history. The part that truly inspires me is his passion. There are very few people in the field today who work out of passion and love. In the process of learning every disease, cure and treatment know to man kind, medical students and doctors tend to forget that they are not treating machines but human beings who deserve not just their attention but also their compassion and sympathy. While I was watching the movie I realized that to become a doctor u need to work hard and pass your exams, but more importantly what u need is the interest and desire to really learn and put the acquired knowledge to use. I realized that if one has the passion and desire, then everything will automatically fall into place. I realized that by scoring the highest in your exams or by mastering every word in the book you only become a doctor. To become a great doctor what you need is passion, dedication and, most important of all, compassion. Another thing that I realized while watching the movie is the need to be open minded and to adapt. The field of medicine is an ever growing, ever developing one. With every passing day there is some or the other new disease or treatment. We have to keep our minds open to all such developments and accept the changes. I also learnt that this open mindedness is important not only in the theoretical knowledge we acquire but that practical life we live. One, no matter how high a position they acquire in the field, should always be open to change and suggestions because the only thing constant in life is change. In fact this movie reminded me of something my dad always tell me, ââ¬Å"look at life through the eyes of a child and live each day like it is either your first or your last. If you can do this then what you have in you is not just focus and concentration but also passion, and an open mind and the willingness to learn.ââ¬

The Women of Eleonora, Ligeia, Berenice, and Morella Essay -- Eleonora
The Women of Eleonora, Ligeia, Berenice, and Morella "Eleonora", "Ligeia", "Berenice", and "Morella" are all tales of beautiful women who die, but they are hardly the same story. They contain many of the same elements and activities, but their genius comes in the unique and sometimes subtle differences and intense endings. à à à In all of the stories we have a narrator who is involved with a woman whose beauty entrances him. Some of the qualities of these women overlap in their description, but each narrator admires a unique quality that becomes their obsession. The death and resurrection of these women causes mental and emotional strain on the part of the narrator. à à à Berenice is described as "agile, graceful and overflowing with energy" with "gorgeous yet fantastic beauty". Some of her physical characteristics included a high forehead and pale skin with "hollow temples" and curly hair. In this story the narrator is focused on Berenice's teeth. "But from the distorted chamber of my brain; had not, alas! departed, and would not be driven away, the white and ghastly spectrum of her teeth". Why the narrator chooses her teeth to obsess about is puzzling, perhaps they represent purity (Griffin) or they are special because they are the only things that did not change when she became ill. Ligeia is described as tall and slender with a "lofty pale forehead" and "skin rivaling the purest ivory". "In the beauty of face no maiden ever equaled her". The narrator notices the "gentle prominence of the regions above the temples" and her raven black tresses. But it is her "large eyes" that haunt him. Eleonora is given the characteristics of "bright e yes" and a "sweet voice". The narrator says, "The loveliness of Eleonora was that of... ...er intimate connection to nature? à à à Because all of these stories are told from male narrator's point of view we are only allowed to know these women as the narrators knew them. And whether by their own admission or by the style of their narrative voice all of the narrators' mental stability is brought into question. Will the reader accept the narrator's account or does Poe intentionally cast doubt on these men to let the reader know these women only exist in the minds of the narrators? à à à In all of these stories the women possess the narrators in life and in death. While Poe may appear to be recycling these women, they each have unique purposes and characteristics. The attention to detail and the intricacies that Poe weaves into his tales of these womenà and the men in their lives, relying on the mysteries of the supernatural, makes these stories intense.à The Women of Eleonora, Ligeia, Berenice, and Morella Essay -- Eleonora The Women of Eleonora, Ligeia, Berenice, and Morella "Eleonora", "Ligeia", "Berenice", and "Morella" are all tales of beautiful women who die, but they are hardly the same story. Banned Books Essay
Throughout history, books have been the target of censorship. At times, these books are even banned from schools and public libraries because the content in them is thought to be too offensive. For this assignment, you will be reading one of these banned books. Which book you read is your decision, however you should keep in mind the appropriateness of your choice- make sure it is a book that your parents would not find objectionable. After you have read the book, you will be writing a persuasive essay defending whether or not the book should or should not be banned from a middle school library. Your essay should include a paragraph that summarizes the book as well as three logical, defendable reasons why the book should or should not be banned from a middle school library. While you may look up the reasons why the book has been challenged in the past, the thoughts expressed in the paper must be your own. You are expected to use the information about persuasive essays learned in class to format this paper. A rubric outlining the expectations will be posted on my Teacher Page. Your essay must be typed and follow the standard requirements for an essay: double-spaced, Times New Roman, one-inch margins. Any secondary sources or research that you use must be documented with in-text citations and included on a Works Cited page. If, at any time, you have questions regarding the book you are reading or the essay you are writing, please ask me.

Hybrid Contracts for Small Business - 927 Words
Hybrid Contracts for Small Business Introduction There are many different forms of contracts in which the CEO of a small local business could use to try to acquire business from the local Navy base. Most traditional contracts are composed of either fixed price contracts or cost reimbursement type contractual arrangements. However, a new type of contract has emerged that offers small businesses alternatives to the traditional bidding structures. The new alternatives to traditional contracts offer small business a great deal more flexibility in their design. This acts as an incentive for small businesses to bid on various contracts that they might have been uncomfortable with in previous models. The hybrid contract provides a pathway to new opportunities for small business. This paper will briefly outline some of the types of contracts available and discus how they might apply to a small business. Types of Contracts The fixed price contract can be used as an effective, efficient, and accountable contract too. Fixed pricing is typically used when the product or service is being transferred that is relatively easy to determine a fair market value. For example, a fixed price contract might be used to purchase office equipment because the price is not generally subject to a large and subjective interpretation. It also is efficient because it cuts out some of the administrative burden that is placed on the relevant parties (U.S. Government, N.d.). In more complex fixed priceShow MoreRelatedBenefits Of A Cloud Based Service Essay1510 Words à |à 7 PagesSMBs In the recent decade, the price of storage and bandwidth has continously decreased, and so cloud based services are most sought after and more attractive to small and medium-sized business(SMBs), which are seeking to reduce licensing costs, avoid recruiting IT staff and focus fully on their core responsibilty- growing the business. Descartes Meditations On First Philosophy - 1536 Words
ââ¬Å"What therefore did I formerly think I was? A man, of course. But what is a man?â⬠(Descartes 340). This question that Descartes addresses in Meditations on First Philosophy is important because it outlines his core philosophical view in his work. His philosophy primarily focuses on dualism, which is the concept that there is another world that exists with ideal forms and is separate from the world of perception. The part of dualism that Descartes focuses his work on is the distinction between the soul and the body. His perception of what makes up a person is that the soul and the body are two separate entities. More specifically, he believes that the body only exists as a consequence of the soul. These ideologies are applicable to the advancement and understanding of life today because although people naturally evolve through time, the essence of an individual remains the same; every person is born with a soul that thinks and a physical body with a head, neck, trunk, arms , hands, legs and feet. Therefore, through Descartesââ¬â¢ reasoning in his work, he was able to address the question of dualism and clearly illustrate that there exists a difference between the soul and the body. His ideas still remain relevant because he did not rely on principles of his time to draw conclusions, allowing scientists to utilize his work as a foundation for research to help better understand the world. Before examining Descartesââ¬â¢s efforts to allow society to understand the distinction betweenShow MoreRelatedDescartes Meditations On First Philosophy807 Words à |à 4 PagesConner Ruhl Professor Copley Philosophy 1000C 4 May 2015 Descartes, Meditations on First Philosophy Rene Descartes was the first great philosopher of the modern era, He had a new approach which was focused on scientific and mathematical truths. The History of Thanksgiving Essay Example For Students
The History of Thanksgiving Essay THANKSGIVING The purpose of Thanksgiving in Canada is different from the Americans. But even though the reasons for giving thanks are different, many of the customs are the same. Canadian Thanksgiving was originally started to give thanks to God for a bountiful harvest. This was when there were lots of farmers that grew crops. Now we give thanks for everything we appreciate. Some farming families still give thanks for a good crop. Harvest celebrations have been around a long time. Ever since the very first harvest, about 2000 years ago, people have given thanks for a prosperous bounty. The first formal Thanksgiving was in the year 1578. A man named Martin Frobisher had given thanks for surviving his journey from England. He also gave thanks for a place that is now called Newfoundland. The celebration at Thanksgiving was also brought to Nova Scotia when Americans began to settle there. At the same time French settlers were arriving and were also having feasts of thanks. In 1879, Canadian parliament declared November 6th a day of Thanksgiving and a national holiday. The date of Thanksgiving has changed several times until January 31st, 1957, when parliament proclaimed that the second Monday in October be a day of general Thanksgiving to the Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed. A big part of Thanksgiving is a Thanksgiving feast. The feast usually consists of potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, peas, gravy, stuffing, salads, buns and lots of other great food. The main part of the feast is usually the turkey. Other families might have ham, roast beef, duck or chicken. The dessert that is most likely to follow the feast is pumpkin pie. Other people may choose different desserts and food depending on their customs and beliefs for which they choose to give thanks. Lets not forget the biggest and most important reason for this holiday giving THANKS! People usually give thanks for everything they have. Their jobs, health, families or just being alive are just a few of the things that people give thanks for. Thanksgiving is a time when people can create their own customs and traditions because everyone is thankful for different things. The cornucopia has become a traditional symbol of this holiday because it is commonly shown filled with grain, vegetables and fruit, t he staple food that settlers would give thanks for. During Thanksgiving, my family spends time together and we have fun. We go to places and give thanks to God for having each other in our lives. We give thanks for our health, our home, our food and especially each other. My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the pumpkin pie after a big turkey dinner with all the fixings. Thanksgiving is the perfect time for me to appreciate all that I have. My family farms so we always give thanks for a good harvest. Where we come from the community celebrates Thanksgiving all together with a tradition call Fowl Supper. The entire community enjoys food prepared by the local families in the basement of the local church. To those people who created this wonderful holiday..Thank-you for Thanksgiving.
